There is a bicycle race across the United States of America, stretching from ocean to ocean. If you ask any competitor what the most important part of preparing for the race is, they will all say their support system. Seriously, look it up.
Whether your a mind blowing athlete, or having an episode and trying to climb out of a dark pit of depression, your support system is incredibly important. While I am a firm believer that everyone needs some sort of support system, everyone’s is completely unique. For me, it is my family and my amazing friends.
My parents who listened to me when I had a problem and let me come home after I decided to take a M.L.O.A. (Medical Leave Of Absence) from school. My college roommates who held me while I cried and drove with me to see a counselor. Even my cat, who on bad days that crop up from time to time curls up next to me and stays by my side is part of my support system.
On the medical side I have two amazing therapists. One you spent time with me everyday for months after the initial diagnosis, and another who I still speak with on a regular bases, both of whom helped put back together the pieces of a broken girl. Without any of these people I would not be sitting here typing this now. So if your sitting there reading this, feeling alone and hurting, as difficult as I know it is to reach out and ask for help. Please do. Go out and find your support system. They’re just waiting for you.
What do you do when you have no idea where your life is going?
If you have the answer, let me know.
